The daughter, granddaughter, and son-in-law of Rasul Guliyev, the former chairman of the Azerbaijani National Assembly in exile in the USA, have arrived in Baku after 30 years. On the first day of their visit, they visited the Alley of Honor, followed by the Alley of Martyrs. During their stay in Azerbaijan, they are also planned to visit the liberated Karabakh territories.

Rasul Guliyev's daughter's return to Azerbaijan after 30 years has brought the family members of the ex-speaker – especially his children – into the focus of media and public interest. Who are his children, and what do they do?

According to Modern.az, Rasul Guliyev has two sons and one daughter. All three of them live in America.

The ex-speaker's eldest son, Pervin Guliyev, currently lives in New York State, USA. He left Azerbaijan at the age of 20 and enrolled in an English language school in Vienna, Austria. He then moved to the USA in 1992 to pursue higher education. P. Guliyev, who went overseas to continue his education, did not return due to his father leaving Azerbaijan in 1996. At that time, all members of the Guliyev family were granted political asylum status.
He is reported to work in the financial sector.
54-year-old Pervin Guliyev is married. His wife, Ms. Zemfira, also completed her education in the USA and works as a teacher at a school. The couple has two sons - Rasul and Elmir.

There is information that Rasul Guliyev's other son, Ziya Guliyev, is an artist and works in the private sector. He is also reported to be married and a father of two children.

The ex-speaker's daughter, Khanim Guliyeva, is married and has two children. She previously worked in the banking sector in the USA. Later, she worked for a foundation established for democracy. Now, she is reported to be active in the private sector.

Rasul Guliyev, who moved to the USA in 1996, is currently 78 years old. He is married to Elmira Guliyeva, who was formerly a petroleum engineer.

R. Guliyev was appointed director of the Baku Oil Refinery in 1981. In 1990, he was elected a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan. After the Republic of Azerbaijan restored its independence – in 1992, R. Guliyev was appointed Vice-President of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).

On May 11, 1993, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan and served in this position until November 9, 1993.

On July 29, 1993, he was elected a deputy of the National Assembly. On November 5, 1993, he was elected chairman of the parliament and served in that position until November 1995.

In 1995, he was re-elected as a member of the National Assembly and chairman of the Azerbaijani parliament.

On September 11, 1996, he resigned from the post of Chairman of the National Assembly. In the same year, he emigrated to the USA. After settling in the USA, R. Guliyev was in opposition to the Azerbaijani government and cooperated with some political parties in Baku.

In the 2003 presidential elections, he was nominated by the Azerbaijan Democratic Party (ADP), but the Central Election Commission did not approve him as a presidential candidate.

In 2005, he attempted to return to Azerbaijan to participate in the parliamentary elections. However, Bina Airport refused to accept the plane he was on. Therefore, the plane was forced to land in Simferopol, Ukraine. Rasul Guliyev was arrested there. He was released after 3 days due to pressure from the USA and international organizations.

Rasul Guliyev was later represented in the Open Society party established in Azerbaijan, but he resigned from it in 2013.

Rasul Guliyev announced his support for Ilham Aliyev in the snap presidential elections held in Azerbaijan in 2024 and called on his supporters to vote for him.

He is currently an honorary member of the Future Azerbaijan Party, which operates in Azerbaijan.
