Last Saturday, an event that shook the country's political agenda occurred: an unprecedented scandal took place at the extraordinary congress of the Motherland Party (AVP). The dispute between the party leader, former MP Fəzail Ağamalı, and his children also became a topic of discussion in the media and social networks. Concurrently with this scandal, topics such as “intra-party succession” and “family politics” were discussed.

At the extraordinary congress held on October 25, Günay Ağamalı, the daughter of the Ağamalı family serving as an MP, and Elçin Ağamalı, the son representing the party structure, engaged in a “life-or-death” struggle for the chairmanship. Fəzail Ağamalı announced his intention to hand over the party leadership to his daughter. Among the party members, there were those who supported Elçin Ağamalı's candidacy.

During the congress, tension escalated, and security guards intervened in the incident. Fəzail Ağamalı stated that his son violated the congress regulations and was removed from the building. Elçin Ağamalı, however, declared that he was elected chairman by a unanimous vote and stated that his father had resigned.

Currently, legal procedures regarding the matter are underway, and how the scandal will conclude is arousing interest.

Currently, along with Fəzail Ağamalı, his children have also become a focus of media and public interest. How many children does the former MP have, where did they graduate from, and what professions have they pursued?

Fəzail Ağamalı officially has three children: two sons and one daughter.

Fəzail Ağamalı's other son, Elçin Ağamalı, is one year younger than his brother. Elçin Ağamalı, a contender for the AVP chairmanship, is 50 years old. Like his elder brother, he also received two higher education degrees. Elçin Ağamalı graduated from the Law Faculty of Baku State University. He then received a second higher education at the Academy of Public Administration under the President.
He worked in public service for some time, then operated as a businessman. He is married and has one son and one daughter.
Elçin Ağamalı told the press that he has been a member of the organization since he was 18, from the time the Motherland Party was officially registered – 1992. In the party, he served as Chairman of the Central Control and Audit Commission, Secretary for organizational matters, Deputy for international affairs, Head of the Central Apparatus, member of the Central Council, and member of the Board of Directors.

Fəzail Ağamalı's daughter, Günay Ağamalı, is 42 years old. According to her biography in the Milli Majlis, Ms. Günay graduated from Western University in 2004. From 2004 to 2006, she pursued master's studies at Azerbaijan University of Languages. In 2012, she specialized in psychology at Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University through further training. On September 23, 2024, Günay Ağamalı was elected as a deputy to the 7th convocation of the Milli Majlis from the Salyan-Biləsuvar-Neftçala electoral district No. 65. She is single and has 3 children: 2 daughters and one son.
Günay Ağamalı is a member of the Motherland Party and the chairperson of the Women's Council.
Before being elected as a deputy, Günay Ağamalı managed the family-owned “Buta” kindergarten. The “Buta” nursery and kindergarten she managed operated from 2011 to 2024.

In one of his past interviews with Modern.az, F. Ağamalı stated that he imposed certain timely restrictions on his children to prevent them from acquiring bad habits: “I have not imposed any specific prohibitions that would restrict their activities, worldview, or hinder their development. Just as there are normal prohibitions in normal families, there have been prohibitions in our family too. We have not allowed our children, especially our sons, to acquire bad habits. In other words, what are those bad habits: smoking, inclination to alcohol. Thank God, these are not present in my children. Instead, they have grown up in a spirit of respect for Azerbaijan's national customs and traditions. As conservative Azerbaijanis, I and the children's mother have strived to raise them in this manner. And they have been raised this way.”

“I love all three of my children equally. All three of them resemble me in different ways. The main thing is that they complement each other. That is, there are no points in their character, nature, actions, and behavior that could create a contradiction between me and them. I am pleased with each of my children; may God make them happy,” said F. Ağamalı.
