On the eve of the Second Karabakh War, some Armenians threatened Azerbaijan. They said that if Azerbaijan attempted to liberate Karabakh from occupation, Armenian tanks would be in the streets of Baku, and they themselves would drink tea in Baku.
Among those making such “courageous” statements was the well-known Armenian director, participant of the First Karabakh War, Arshak Zakaryan. It was he who, in a video filmed in our occupied territories after the April battles of 2016, attempted to humiliate Azerbaijanis, stating that if war broke out, they would reach Baku.
When Zakaryan and other self-satisfied Armenians uttered these words at the time, they believed that the “plan to reach Baku” was as easy as a game on a map. However, the Second Karabakh War proved that maps and reality are entirely different things!
Last week, on November 8, the President of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ilham Aliyev, speaking at the Military Parade dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the Victory in the Patriotic War in Baku's Azadlig Square, also recalled this issue and delivered his message to the revanchists:
“On the eve of the Second Karabakh War, they had become even more aggressive, starting to put forward new territorial claims against us. They threatened us with a new war. They even said that they would wage a new war for new territories and completely occupy Azerbaijan. They said their tanks would be in the streets of Baku. They said they would drink tea in Baku. In fact, their wishes came true. We made them a reality. Their tanks are displayed today in the Military Trophies Park. Armenian war criminals are currently answering before the court in Baku and are drinking Azerbaijani tea in the pre-trial detention center”.
As the President of Azerbaijan stated, the occupiers' “desire to come to Baku” came true, but with a difference. Armenian tanks were brought to Baku damaged, without tracks, without barrels, and as a symbol of the Azerbaijani Army's victory! Now they are exhibited as artifacts in the Military Trophies Park in Baku.
Figures like Ruben Vardanyan, Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, and Arayik Harutyunyan, who recently threatened Azerbaijan, revealed their occupation ambitions, and made absurd statements about Baku being occupied, are indeed drinking tea in our capital today. Just with a different view – in a pre-trial detention center, behind bars, facing the laws of Azerbaijan.
According to Modern.az, Armenian journalists recently sought out director Arshak Zakaryan, attempting to get him to speak again, but were unable to get a response.
Arshak Zakaryan, who said “Our tanks will enter Baku,” has remained silent and did not wish to comment on the Victory Parade held in Baku. Zakaryan, who established a public organization called “Armenia's National Guard” during the occupation, now understands that he was mistaken in believing they would permanently possess Karabakh.
It should be recalled that while Kalbajar was under occupation, Arshak Zakaryan built a restaurant-recreation center there, established a large business, and earned a substantial amount of profit over 30 years. Zakaryan, who threatened Azerbaijan by pointing to a road sign in his video and saying “these lands are ours, and we will take Baku,” cried like a helpless woman when Kalbajar was liberated from occupation.
