Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his wife Anna Hakobyan have separated after 30 years of marriage. During this period, the couple lived in a civil union, not a formal marriage.
Armenian society is discussing the Pashinyan-Hakobyan couple's divorce from various perspectives. One of the questions raised in these discussions is: who will the children stay with, and how will they be divided?
The parties have not yet answered this question.
According to information provided by Modern.az, citing Armenian sources, Nikol Pashinyan and Anna Hakobyan are also university classmates. They first met in 1991 while studying journalism at the Faculty of Philology of Yerevan State University.
“The first time I entered the auditorium, I heard a name – Nikol Pashinyan. At that time, Nikol was working in the press. Everyone was talking about him: teachers, deans, students. Then, as a first-year student, I was given an important assignment: to write an article for the newspaper. That's when I went to the editorial office where Nikol worked. Nikol fell in love with me at first sight, and I with him,” Anna Hakobyan said in one of her interviews.
Anna Hakobyan is 3 years younger than Nikol Pashinyan; she was born in 1978, and the Prime Minister in 1975.
Nikol and Anna were also colleagues. In 1999, Nikol Pashinyan founded the daily newspaper "Haykakan Jamanak" (“Armenian Times”) and led it until 2012. In 2013, his wife Anna Hakobyan took over the position of editor-in-chief.
In 2018, Anna Hakobyan founded the "My Step" and "City of Smiles" charitable foundations.
Four children were born from Anna and Nikol's marriage: their son Ashot, and their daughters Mariam, Shushanna, and Arpine.
In 2018, Ashot completed part of his military service in illegal Armenian formations in Karabakh.
None of Pashinyan and Hakobyan's children have married yet.
