Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei has become Iran's new Supreme Leader.

He was elected the third Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran by a large majority of votes in Iran's Assembly of Experts.

The Assembly of Experts issued a statement regarding this.

Mojtaba Khamenei is the son of Iran's late leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed on February 28.

Modern.az reports that some parts of Mojtaba Khamenei's biography have been published in Iranian media.

Ayatollah Hajj Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei was born in Mashhad in 1969.

He is the second son of the late Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who was Iran's second Supreme Leader (from 1989–2026).

Mojtaba Khamenei received theological education.

Thus, he completed his preparatory seminary at the school of Ayatollah Mojtahed Tehrani. He then went to Qom to complete his seminary courses and stayed there for several years. Subsequently, he continued his seminary education in Tehran.

He took high-level lessons from Ahmadi Miyanaji, Reza Ostadi, and other prominent professors in Qom.

Subsequently, he took lessons in fiqh and principles from his father Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and additionally from Ayatollah Sheikh Javad Tabrizi, Sheikh Hossein Vahid Khorasani, Seyyed Musa Shabbiri Zanjani, Agha Mojtaba Tehrani, and Sheikh Mohammad Momen Qomi.

He continuously participated in various extracurricular courses for over 17 years.

M. Khamenei is reported to possess systematic and consistent intellectual foundations in the set of codified Islamic sciences.

In addition to his education, he was continuously involved in teaching: he taught some seminary courses at the Ayatollah Mojtahed school in Tehran.

He taught at schools in Qom in 2004-206.

It is noted that continuous contact with military commanders, especially “Hezbollah” leader Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah and General Qassem Soleimani, is another important aspect of Mojtaba Khamenei's personality.

Mojtaba Khamenei is married to Zahra Haddad Adel.

His wife, Zahra Haddad Adel, was killed in Tehran on February 28 this year as a result of a US-Israeli attack.

57-year-old Mojtaba Khamenei acquired significant levers of influence while his father was still alive. He is reported to have strong ties with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its affiliated “Basij” paramilitary force.
