The new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, is currently one of the most discussed political figures in the world. It is not yet known how far Iran will advance with him. What is known is that Israel is determined to eliminate Mojtaba Khamenei, and the US is determined to support him.
Mojtaba Khamenei is the second son of the late Supreme Leader of Iran (1989–2026), Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. Ali Khamenei was killed on the night of February 28 to March 1 as a result of the bombing of Tehran by US-Israeli air forces. His wife, Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, as well as his daughter, son-in-law, two grandchildren, and daughter-in-law were also killed in the Tehran strike.
Incidentally, the Khameneis' deceased daughter-in-law, Zahra Haddad Adel, was the wife of the new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.
The Khamenei family has been in the spotlight for many years due to its political power and influence within the country.
According to Modern.az, the late Ali Khamenei had four sons, and although they have not officially held major political positions to date, they are considered important figures in Iran's political circles:
The brothers Mostafa, Mojtaba, Masoud, and Meysam have now become the focus of attention for the entire international community.
Mojtaba Khamenei is the most famous and most discussed member of the family. While he was previously known for his connections within Iran's conservative political circles and with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), he has now become the Supreme Leader to whom all religious-political structures in Iran have pledged allegiance.
The eldest of the brothers, Mostafa Khamenei, is one of the less visible members of the family. He has received religious education and primarily operates within religious circles. His name is rarely mentioned in political media, and he appears very little in public.
Masoud Khamenei is the third brother. He is more associated with cultural and religious activities. Masoud Khamenei is sometimes known as a figure participating in religious events and ideological discussions. However, public information regarding his active role in political power structures is very limited.
Meysam Khamenei, on the other hand, is the least known member of the family. He is almost invisible in public and political media and keeps his personal life very private.
Officially, political power in Iran was not hereditary. In the country's political system, the religious elite and revolutionary institutions played a larger role. However, the election of Ali Khamenei's son as Supreme Leader changed the traditions of power passing from father to son.
