The Georgian Parliament has adopted the proposed amendments to the Law on “Higher Education”.

Modern.az reports that, according to the amendments, with the exception of some specialties in the university system, the duration of bachelor's education is set at 3 years, and master's education at 1 year.

Within the framework of academic higher education, the study program at the bachelor's level will consist of at least 180 credits, and at the master's level, at least 60 credits.

One of the main amendments is also related to the abolition of the grant model in the higher education system. Henceforth, Georgian citizens will receive completely free education at state higher education institutions at both bachelor's and master's levels. However, quotas will be applied for faculties.

It should be noted that the amendments to the law were prepared on the initiative of the government. During the vote, 79 deputies voted in favor of the law, and 9 against.

For your information, currently, the duration of bachelor's education at Georgian universities is 4 years, and master's education is 2 years.
