The Azerbaijani language is taught in Armenian schools.
Modern.az reports that, starting from the 2025-2026 academic year, several schools in Armenia will offer the opportunity to learn the Azerbaijani language. This is not a mandatory subject for the entire country, but a pilot program in three state schools.
According to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia, the Azerbaijani language is taught as a voluntary course, primarily for upper grades and on the condition that trained teachers are available.
Therefore, the subject is not mandatory for students, but offers an option as an additional foreign language.
The Ministry notes that the initiative is related to the expansion of regional language teaching. In addition to traditional foreign languages, knowing Azerbaijani aims to better understand the region, train specialists in international relations, and expand the academic opportunities of schoolchildren.
In addition to Azerbaijani, the development of curricula in Turkish, Persian, Russian, and Georgian languages is expected in the coming years.
