A regular meeting was organized within the framework of the project “School in Public Discussion”, implemented on the initiative of the Baku City Education Department (BŞTİ) and the Azerbaijan Press Council.

Modern.az reports that the meeting held at Secondary School No. 247 in the capital was attended by Elshad Eyvazli, Chairman of the Parliamentary Journalists Union and member of the Board of the Azerbaijan Press Council; Members of Parliament Hikmat Mammadov, Ceyhun Mammadov, Malahat Ibrahimqizi, Mehriban Valiyeva; Hikmat Alizade, Chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Science and Education; Gunay Akbarova, Secretary of the Public Council; Reyhan Ojaqova, Chairman of the Nasimi District Trade Union Organization; NGO representatives, school principals, pedagogical staff, media representatives, parents, and other guests.

The guests first viewed an exhibition of students' handicrafts in the school foyer and familiarized themselves with the inclusive education, “Digital Skills”, STEAM classrooms, “From Waste to Life”, and “Schoolchildren's Auto-town” projects operating in the educational institution.

The school director, Sitara Abbasova, greeted the guests and noted that such public discussions are of great importance for strengthening cooperation between the school, parents, and the public. The director delivered a presentation on the innovations implemented at the school, various projects, and student achievements.

It was noted that the main goal of the school is to unleash the potential of students, create a favorable environment for their development, and raise patriotic, responsible, and self-confident individuals for society.

It was emphasized that the school was founded in 1969 and underwent major renovation in 2016. Education for grades 1-11 is conducted in Azerbaijani and Russian languages at the educational institution. The school operates in a two-shift regime with a 5-day school week.

Currently, 69 teachers work at the school. Of these, 36 participated in the teacher certification process and achieved positive results, while 19 demonstrated high results and were awarded a higher percentage salary increase.

In his speech, Elshad Eyvazli, Chairman of the Parliamentary Journalists Union and member of the Board of the Press Council, emphasized the importance of establishing an open dialogue between the school, society, and the media.

He also noted the importance of increasing media literacy among schoolchildren and their development in a correct information environment.

Ceyhun Mammadov, member of the Science and Education Committee of the Milli Majlis and deputy, spoke about the reforms carried out in the education sector in the country and the existing challenges. He stated that the application of new approaches is crucial for the development of education, and the transformation of schools into public legal entities could enable more flexible organization of management in this area.

Member of Parliament Malahat Ibrahimqizi noted that education is an important area for which not only schools but the entire society bears responsibility. According to her, the joint activity of family and school plays a special role in raising patriotic and responsible young people.

Member of Parliament Mehriban Valiyeva emphasized the importance of developing children's vocabulary, stating that it is necessary to determine vocabulary indicators for various age stages and conduct scientific research in this direction.

In his speech, Member of Parliament Hikmat Mammadov noted the importance of both physical and intellectual development of students and emphasized the significance of conducting primary education in the mother tongue.

Hikmat Alizade, Chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Science and Education, stated that public discussion of school-related issues positively impacts the development of the education system. According to him, strengthening cooperation between the school, family, and society plays a significant role in this area.

Other speakers positively evaluated the activities of the educational institution and the projects implemented, stating that such discussions contribute to the joint resolution of existing issues in the educational environment.

Artistic compositions performed by students were presented within the framework of the event.

It should be noted that the main objective of the project is to expand public accountability regarding the activities of general education institutions, establish an open dialogue with the public, and increase transparency in the educational environment.
