The court proceedings on the appeal filed against the verdict concerning blogger Qabil Mammadov, who resides abroad and is accused under Article 24 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, have concluded.
**Modern.az** reports that a decision was announced today at the Baku Court of Appeal in proceedings chaired by Judge Zamin Ibrahimov.
According to the decision, the appeal was not granted, and the verdict was upheld.
Let us recall that a verdict in absentia was read out against Qabil Mammadov at the Baku Court for Grave Crimes. According to the verdict, he was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
It should be noted that a criminal case was initiated against Qabil Mammadov by the Investigation Department of the General Prosecutor's Office.
Based on the totality of evidence collected in the case, on July 17 last year, a decision was made to re-indict Qabil Mammadov under Articles 178.2.2, 178.2.4, 182.2.1, 182.2.4, 214.2.1, 214.2.2, 214.2.3, 214-1, 214-2, 32.3, 34.2, 233, 32.3, 34.2, 315, 32.3, 34.2, 186.2.1, 32.3, 34.2, 186.2.2, 32.3, 34.2 and 127.2.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan; however, since he was outside the borders of the Republic of Azerbaijan, it was not possible to announce the indictment to him.
Regarding Q. Mammadov, an arrest warrant in absentia was issued by a decision of the Binagadi District Court in January of this year.
