In many countries around the world, the HPV vaccine, i.e., against the human papillomavirus, has been administered for years within the framework of state programs and is considered an effective tool in preventing cervical cancer.
Modern.az reports that this was stated in Baku TV's video material.
Although this vaccine is available in Azerbaijan, it is currently not administered within the framework of the State Program and has not been included in the mandatory health insurance package. Recent claims regarding the potential inclusion of the HPV vaccine in mandatory health insurance have sparked discussions in society.
Regarding the matter, the Ministry of Health stated that surveys are currently being conducted with the support of the World Health Organization to study and assess the community's readiness level for the implementation of the human papillomavirus vaccine.
"Depending on the results of the surveys, either vaccine procurement will commence, or awareness campaigns will be launched among the population regarding the safety and effectiveness of the HPV vaccine in protecting women from cervical cancer," the Ministry noted.
Currently, the non-administration of the HPV vaccine within the State Program means it is only accessible to a limited group. Experts, however, emphasize the importance of this vaccine in preventing cervical cancer.
