The Azerbaijan Standardization Institute (AZSTAND), operating under the State Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control Agency under the President, has adopted new state standards to enhance safety, environmental performance, and technical compliance in the transport sector.

Modern.az reports this, citing AZSTAND.

It was stated that the adopted documents were prepared based on the relevant regulations of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE):

AZS ECE 21:2026 "Uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicles with regard to their interior fittings";

AZS ECE 51:2026 "Uniform provisions concerning the official approval of mechanical vehicles having at least 4 wheels with regard to their sound level";

AZS ECE 85:2026 "Uniform provisions concerning the official approval of internal combustion engines or electric propulsion systems intended for the propulsion of M and N category mechanical vehicles with regard to the measurement of net power and the 30-minute maximum power of electric propulsion system";

AZS ECE 16:2026 "Uniform provisions for approval: I. Safety belts, restraint systems, child restraint systems and ISOFIX child restraint systems for occupants of power-driven vehicles; II. Vehicles equipped with safety belts, safety belt reminder systems, restraint systems, child restraint systems, ISOFIX child restraint systems and i-Size child restraint systems".

These state standards cover requirements for safety belts and child restraint systems, regulations on vehicle sound levels, rules for measuring the net power of internal combustion engines and electric propulsion systems, as well as requirements for the interior parts of passenger cars, excluding the rear-view mirror or mirrors, the arrangement of control elements, the roof and sunroof, and the backrests and rear parts of seats.

The aforementioned draft state standards were adopted based on the submission of the "Road Transport" Technical Committee for Standardization (AZSTAND/TK 19), chaired by the Main State Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and have been included in the State Fund of Normative Documents on Standardization.
