Certain claims have been spread regarding Tahir Karimli, former deputy of the Milli Majlis and former chairman of the Vahdat Party. It is noted that Tahir Karimli wishes to return to the party chairmanship.
According to other information, Tahir Karimli's powers within the party are broader, even superior to those of the chairman.
Tahir Karimli currently holds the position of Chairman of the Grand Council of the Vahdat Party.
In a statement to Modern.az, Tahir Karimli confirmed that his powers are extensive.
"Yes, the powers of the Chairman of the Grand Council are quite extensive. He can nominate candidates for deputy, municipal elections, and presidency; furthermore, he can send any official to resignation, and even expel them from the party. In other words, the Vahdat Party resembles a kind of "parliamentary republic". That is, it is true that the Chairman of the Grand Council possesses extensive powers", he stated.
Regarding a return to the party chairmanship, T. Karimli stated that he currently has no such intention:
“I have no intention of returning to the chairmanship of the Vahdat Party. The congress is held every five years. An extraordinary congress has also not been scheduled. In general, I initiated the change in party chairmanship for the sake of rejuvenation and development. In connection with rejuvenation, measures are currently being taken to establish district organizations. That is, there is no basis for rumors that I supposedly want to become chairman again. If I were pursuing my own interests, even if I weren't chairman myself, I would have brought my brother or child to the chairmanship".
It should be recalled that an extraordinary congress of the Vahdat Party was held in June last year. During the congress, Tahir Karimli was not a candidate; instead, Adəm Bakuvi was elected chairman.
