Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova commented on the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Modern.az reports, citing TASS, that Zakharova called the killing of Khamenei and other high-ranking Iranian officials an act of "cowardice".
The diplomat stated at the briefing that the Russian Federation strongly condemns the attack by the US-Israel tandem against Iran, and the vile assassination of the Iranian head of state and members of the country's high military and political leadership.
Zakharova added that Moscow's principled position has been reflected in the relevant statements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in speeches at UN Security Council meetings, and at special meetings of the IAEA Board of Governors.
“This is consistently conveyed in regular contacts with foreign partners at all levels, including the highest levels".
It should be recalled that Ali Khamenei and most commanders included in Iran's military leadership were killed on February 28 as a result of a US-Israeli airstrike.
