During 2025, 1799 criminal acts committed using information technologies were recorded in the country.
Modern.az reports that these remarks were made by Emil Mehdiyev, Head of the Main Department for Combating Cybercrime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, at the forum held on the occasion of March 15 – World Consumer Rights Day, on the topic “Consumers in the Modern Digital World: E-commerce, Digital Services, and Security Issues”.
According to him, 632 of these were cyber theft, and 352 were related to other cybercrime incidents.
E. Mehdiyev added that in parallel with the development of digital technologies, cybercrime is also taking on a more complex nature:
“The leakage of electronic payment data, theft incidents using information technologies, and other cyberattacks pose serious risks to consumers' financial security”.
The head of the main department emphasized that an analysis of crimes committed in the field of e-commerce shows that criminals mostly use fake email addresses, fake websites, and phishing methods:
“Using these methods, criminals abuse people's trust and seize their funds with various pretexts and attractive offers. Although the essence of the methods does not change, their application forms and deception tactics are constantly updated”, - he noted.
