In recent years, an increasing trend in cardiovascular diseases has been observed. At the same time, there has been a change in the age range of patients. Currently, it is observed that individuals in their 30s suffer more from cardiovascular diseases. Whereas previously, these diseases were considered more characteristic of people aged 60–70.
Regarding this, invasive cardiologist Gulana Aghayeva spoke in a statement to Modern.az.
According to the doctor, the main reasons for this are an abnormal lifestyle, stress, low physical activity, harmful nutrition, smoking, alcohol consumption, and energy drink consumption.
Gulana Aghayeva stated that stent implantation surgery is not performed on all cardiovascular patients:
“First, an invasive examination is conducted, and only after that is the transition made to the next medical stage. Patients for whom treatment applied to heart vessels has no effect undergo either stent implantation or open surgery”.
The doctor noted that local production for stent operations is not yet available:
“For this purpose, medical products primarily manufactured in Germany and the USA are used. The implantation of drug-eluting stents ensures that the vessels remain open for a longer period”.
She noted that complete assurance for the continuity of human life is not guaranteed anywhere in the world:
“Even if the operation is ideal and the patient fully adheres to subsequent medical instructions, there remains a 1–3 percent chance of stent occlusion.
After the operation, medication is mandatory. A patient who has undergone surgery must take certain medications for the rest of their life.
In addition, unequivocal cessation of smoking, increased physical activity, and regular medical supervision are also considered important”.
Gulana Aghayeva noted that in Azerbaijan, cardiovascular diseases are more prevalent among men compared to women. Among children, however, these diseases are rarely observed:
“Currently, these types of operations are carried out free of charge within the framework of the State Agency for Compulsory Medical Insurance”.
