A mass action will be organized on March 28 with the joint initiative of IDEA Public Union, the official coordinator of the international “Earth Hour” campaign in Azerbaijan, and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
IDEA informed Modern.az that many institutions and organizations joining the campaign will switch off the facade lights of their buildings for one hour, starting from 20:30 local time.
It should be noted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of “Earth Hour” worldwide. Azerbaijan joined the list of countries supporting this global campaign in 2011, and since then, the campaign has been held annually in our country with the support of IDEA.
As the world's largest movement dedicated to the environment, “Earth Hour” mobilizes millions of people to stop climate change. This campaign, which began in 2007 as an initiative to massively switch off lights in Sydney, Australia, is observed in most countries around the world, in thousands of cities. During the "Earth Hour" actions, celebrated annually on the last Saturday of March, the facade lights of famous buildings in large cities are switched off for one hour. In addition, millions of people individually join this action, demonstrating solidarity towards environmental protection.
Considering the seriousness of the threat of climate change and the importance of combating it for humanity, IDEA Public Union and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) invite everyone to join the action by switching off the lights for 60 minutes at 20:30 on March 28 and dedicating one hour to our planet.
