The construction of a direct railway line between Turkey and Azerbaijan is already underway, and this project is not dependent on processes related to Armenia.
Modern.az reports that Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksey Overchuk spoke about this in an interview with "TASS".
“It is clear to everyone involved in this topic that the existence of a direct connection between Azerbaijan and Turkey holds a separate value for them,” Overchuk noted.
According to him, the idea for this project was discussed long before the issue of Armenia's unblocking and the normalization of relations between Yerevan, Baku, and Ankara came onto the agenda.
Aleksey Overchuk stated that Azerbaijan has a short, approximately 17-kilometer border with Turkey in the western part of Nakhchivan. This distance is sufficient to connect the two countries directly by railway.
He noted that within the framework of the project, a total of 224 kilometers of new railway line is planned to be built from that border to the city of Kars in Turkey.
