The Armenian government has rejected a bill on the paid reduction of military service.
Modern.az reports that the Armenian Cabinet of Ministers has rejected a bill proposing to reduce the duration of military service for conscripts aged 18-27 to 1-6 months in exchange for a payment of 15-20 million drams.
The initiative also proposes raising the conscription age to 37. The authorities, citing demographic risks and the growing threat of emigration, considered this idea to be untimely.
