US President Donald Trump announced his plan to stop the war in Gaza some time ago.
According to the plan supported by several countries, including Azerbaijan, Gaza will be placed under temporary foreign administration with international participation. International forces will also be deployed there to stabilize the situation.
It is reported that peacekeepers will be appointed to Gaza from Muslim countries.
It is interesting whether Azerbaijan will also send peacekeepers to the territory?
In a statement to Modern.az, Aydin Mirzazade, a member of the Milli Majlis Committee on Defense, Security, and Anti-Corruption, stated that US President Donald Trump's struggle for peace is noteworthy:
“It was Trump who achieved a logical conclusion to the Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict, stopped the military conflict that began between Thailand and Cambodia, and also took certain steps towards the Russia-Ukraine war. Furthermore, today the US leader is taking very serious steps to prevent the Israel-Palestine conflict. Trump's plan is rational. The proposal to deploy peacekeepers to the territory is interesting. The nuance regarding peacekeepers being from Islamic countries shows that Trump has considered all the subtleties.”
The deputy emphasized that Azerbaijan is one of the leading countries in the Islamic world:
“Azerbaijan enjoys great prestige among Arab countries. Our country has taken its stance, considering the interests of the Palestinian people, and supports the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. The Palestinian embassy operates in Azerbaijan. We advocate for an end to the war there and a peaceful resolution of the issue. Once the war ends and reconstruction efforts begin, Azerbaijan has already committed to building a secondary school there. At the same time, recently 10 Palestinian students were admitted to Azerbaijani universities without examination. Their tuition fees will be covered by the Azerbaijani state, and they will be provided with accommodation. In the Palestinian issue, Azerbaijan acts as a country working to ensure peace and stability. Today, Azerbaijan supports the swift resolution of the Palestinian issue.”
The parliamentarian stated that it is possible for Azerbaijan to send peacekeepers to Gaza:
“If the deployment of peacekeepers in Gaza is proposed and Azerbaijan's participation is desired, the issue can be discussed. I believe that Azerbaijan's participation in the process is possible. Azerbaijani peacekeepers have participated in peace-making processes in various parts of the world. The last military contingents to withdraw from Afghanistan were those of Turkey and Azerbaijan. There are video recordings showing that our peacekeepers performed very well in ensuring the safety of the local population who appealed to them.”
