On January 16, the establishment of the "Peace Council" was announced at the initiative of US President Donald Trump. Invitations were sent to more than 60 countries to become members of the Council. On January 22, the founding document of the "Peace Council," established at the initiative of US President Donald Trump, was signed in Davos, Switzerland. Representatives from 21 countries, in addition to the US, participated in the ceremony. Donald Trump stated at the event that this council has the full potential to be one of the most important organizations ever created.

The establishment of the "Peace Council" has led to certain discussions regarding the UN. Some experts believe that the "Peace Council" will replace the UN. They explain this by the UN's transformation into a discredited organization at the present moment.

Rasim Musabayov, a member of the Milli Majlis Committee on International Relations and Interparliamentary Ties, stated that it is premature to say anything about the "Peace Council" replacing the UN at present:

Questions such as "What will the 'Peace Council' be like?", "Will Trump's interest in this matter fade or remain?", "What will happen after Trump?" have not yet been answered. Therefore, I believe it is inappropriate to hastily pit the "Peace Council" against the UN immediately.

The parliamentarian emphasized that there is currently no institution that can replace the UN:

"The UN has flaws. However, there is currently no institution that can replace the UN. The UN is the most universal organization, and I believe that, despite all criticisms, the UN will remain in its place for the foreseeable future. Naturally, reforms are important. However, the world is currently in such a state that it is not even capable of carrying out proper reforms."

Arzuxan Alizade, Deputy Chairman of the Human Rights Committee, noted that the United Nations has seriously lost its prestige:

"For a long time now, the generally low operational capabilities of this institution, the absence of an enforcement mechanism, and the nullification of its ability to intervene promptly in events have practically meant that it is deprived of the ability to prevent conflicts occurring in today's troubled world, and therefore, major powers are already expressing their positions on this matter. Respected Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also used the phrase "The world is bigger than five" a few years ago. Naturally, the five permanent member countries of the UN Security Council were meant, and the world is already transforming into a multipolar world. And in this multipolar world, there has arisen a need for the development of new mechanisms. The UN, formed after the Second World War, had the capacity to resolve problems for a long time.

However, it is now evident that the UN is no longer in its previous capacity, is losing its prestige, and we, in particular, felt this firsthand. The non-implementation of four UN resolutions and Azerbaijan's realization of the issues stipulated in those resolutions through its own strength gave reason to say that the UN is truly losing its prestige. And it is known that on January 16, Donald Trump made an announcement regarding the formation of an organization under the name "Peace Council."

After that, invitations were sent to countries, and Azerbaijan is among these invited countries. Invitations have been sent to approximately sixty countries, and although it was initially stated that the "Peace Council" would engage in activities aimed at realizing peace in Gaza, rebuilding Gaza, and stopping the conflict in the Middle East, in reality, the issue of the "Peace Council" being able to perform other functions in a broader, larger sense is coming to the fore".

The parliamentarian stated that the issue of the "Peace Council" even transforming into an organization that could replace the UN is also on the agenda:

"In this regard, the opinions expressed naturally have a basis. Because Donald Trump, some time ago, also demonstrated the United States' position regarding the issue of withdrawing from the UN altogether. In this regard, it is natural that the issue of the "Peace Council" transforming into an organization that could replace the UN may materialize in the future.

The format also gives reason to say this, and the United States aims to become the main leading force of this organization that will be formed in the future by taking on dominance in this process.

In this regard, the possibilities of the UN being replaced by a new organization should naturally not be overlooked. Today, not only the UN but also a number of international organizations are not in their former prestige. In a troubled world, preventing processes in general, taking steps for the peace process, for the establishment of peace, sustainable peace in the world, are among the important conditions, and in this regard, while naturally appreciating the efforts shown by the United States, we must also keep them in mind".
