US President Donald Trump is considering extensive strikes against Iran, including the elimination of Iran's political and security leadership. A ready plan for potential strikes on the country's nuclear facilities and state institutions is also on the table.

Currently, the US has amassed tens of thousands of troops, aircraft, missile systems, and aircraft carriers in its military bases around Iran. The harsh statements by the US leadership regarding Iran and the possibility of a military strike are increasing tensions in the region.

It is precisely the form that the political and economic impacts on the region will take if the current tension escalates into military conflict that is a noteworthy point.

In a statement to Modern.az, Nigar Mammadova, a member of the Milli Majlis Committee on International Relations and Interparliamentary Ties, stated that any conflict naturally does not pass without affecting other regions or countries:

"In this sense, Azerbaijan is not in favor of conflict occurring in any geography, especially in neighboring countries. Official Baku rejects all claims regarding the use of its territory against Iran. Thus, during a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov once again specifically emphasized that our country's airspace or territory will never be allowed to be used by any state for military operations against neighboring Iran, or any other country".

The parliamentarian emphasized that the US-Iran confrontation poses serious threats and local risks for the Middle East, as well as the South Caucasus:

"Against the backdrop of geopolitical threats, border security may weaken, and a refugee influx could become inevitable. The transformation of the current tension into a real war could lead to a regional conflict. Because Tehran has declared that retaliatory strikes will target states where US military bases are located. As is known, US bases exist on the Arabian coast of the Gulf, particularly in Bahrain and Qatar. For this reason, the Gulf Arab countries, allies of the United States, are also concerned about the situation".

The deputy noted that if a US-Iran war breaks out, it will inevitably create serious economic consequences:

"This will primarily create a basis for a rapid increase in oil and gas prices. In this sense, as stated by the Azerbaijani side, it is essential for the parties to refrain from actions and rhetoric that could lead to instability. Official Baku advocates for resolving existing problems only through dialogue and diplomatic means, in accordance with the norms and principles of international law".
