During his recent phone conversation with Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian, President Ilham Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan is ready to contribute to de-escalating tensions between Iran and the United States. The head of our country emphasized that Azerbaijan advocates for the resolution of such issues through negotiations and mutual understanding.
The forms in which official Baku will support the de-escalation of tensions, and whether it will host any potential talks between the two countries, are noteworthy points.
Member of the Milli Majlis Committee on International Relations and Interparliamentary Ties Fariz Ismayilzade stated that Azerbaijan has always strived for the stability of the region:
“I would like to note three points. The first point, naturally, is that Azerbaijan advocates for stability and peace in its region, among its neighbors. We have always strived to contribute to stability in our region. Stability in our neighborhood is, in itself, important for our country. Because when there is war, there are internally displaced persons, refugees, and risks increase. Therefore, we would like all tensions to be resolved through diplomatic means.”

The parliamentarian noted that Azerbaijan already has extensive experience in mediation at the international level:
“We have supported the holding of Syria-Israel talks. In some cases, we have contributed to the Israel-Turkey, Russia-Turkey dialogue. Azerbaijan contributes to the development of countries and the assurance of stability both through diplomatic means and by providing humanitarian aid. In the issue between Iran and the United States, we can also play a certain mediation role. Azerbaijan's reputation and prestige are already at a high level; it is regarded as a reliable partner. And it is not excluded that Azerbaijan can also play an important role and mediate in these talks.”

Political scientist Farhad Mammadov also noted that Azerbaijan can support diplomatic efforts:
“Currently, Turkey and Qatar are carrying out the main diplomatic efforts between the US and Iran. The President of Azerbaijan expressed Azerbaijan's intention in talks with the President of Iran, and on the other hand, the issue of Azerbaijan's airspace not being used against Iran was noted. This means that Azerbaijan is not interested in destabilizing Iran. On the other hand, there are diplomatic efforts that Azerbaijan can support.”
