In Armenia, an office called the "representation" of the former self-proclaimed regime in Karabakh operates in Yerevan. The office, led by Samvel Shahramanyan, the last leader of the separatists, draws attention with its provocative activities and open threats against Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.
This is not a positive development in terms of the ongoing peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Because one of the agreed conditions for peace is the removal of territorial claims against Azerbaijan from the Armenian constitution. It is precisely from this perspective that there is a need for the Armenian authorities to take decisive steps regarding the last remnants of the Karabakh separatists.
In a statement to Modern.az, former Foreign Minister Tofiq Zulfugarov stated that those in Armenia who wish to make territorial claims against Azerbaijan should know that they will be held accountable for this:
"No court in Armenia has the right to make any decisions regarding the territory of a neighboring state. Now, a court in Armenia has made some decision regarding Shahramanyan. These are merely political circulations and games. The dissolution of the illegal entity is carried out in accordance with the Constitution of Azerbaijan. Decisions in Armenia in this direction, i.e., in favor of the self-proclaimed regime, are illegal. These are simply political games played by criminals among themselves. The issue should be viewed from this perspective. If any political forces in Armenia wish to pursue a policy of territorial claims against Azerbaijan in one way or another, they should know that they will be held accountable for this. Azerbaijan considers such activities against itself as a threat. And it is obliged to take necessary preventive measures to ensure the safety of its citizens".
T. Zulfugarov emphasized that the Armenian side must take necessary steps to prevent the illegal activities of the remnants of the self-proclaimed regime:
"In this regard, it is necessary to recall Azerbaijan's demand. Territorial claims against Azerbaijan and a policy of annexation are declared in the Armenian constitution. This has effectively been adopted as law. If Armenia wishes to achieve peace with Azerbaijan, it must naturally consider these laws null and void. Only then can a peace agreement be signed. Azerbaijan closely monitors the processes taking place in Armenia. If any threats arise to Azerbaijan's statehood or the security of our citizens, it can take preventive measures in accordance with the UN Charter".
