In Russia, the prosecutor requested a 9-year prison sentence for Shahin Shikhlinksi, the former head of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg, and his son, Mutvali Shikhlinksi.

Modern.az reports, citing Russian media, that during the final address at the Kirov District Court of Yekaterinburg, the prosecutor requested a longer sentence for the former leader of the Azerbaijani diaspora, Shahin Shikhlinksi, and his son, Mutvali.
"Father and son Shikhlinksi are accused under Article 318, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, "Application of violence dangerous to health against a public official". The prosecutor requested 9 years for the elder Shikhlinksi and 9 years for the younger Shikhlinksi in a general regime penal colony," the court stated.

It should be recalled that on the evening of July 1, 2025, diaspora leader Shahin Shikhlinksi and his son Mutvala Shikhlinksi were detained by special forces near the "Baku Plaza" shopping center belonging to them.

On July 16 of the same year, Mutvali Shikhlinksi was arrested by the Lenin District Court, while his father fled to Moscow and hid on the territory of the Azerbaijani embassy. On August 2, Shahin Shikhlinksi left the embassy and surrendered to security forces. By decision of the Basmanny Court, he was also arrested.

This will be the second sentence for Shahin Shikhlinksi. Thus, on March 5, 2026, Shahin Shikhlinksi was deprived of liberty for 22 years on charges of organizing murder. The court also sentenced his compatriots. All of them were also sentenced to imprisonment:
Akif Safarov – 21 years,
Bakir Safarov – 10 years,
Ayaz Safarov – 20 years,
Kamal Safarov – 14 years,
Mazahir Safarov – 13 years,
Shajaaddin Rajabov – 14 years.
