The mayors of Seydişehir and Emirgazi districts of Turkey's Konya province, who were from the Republican People's Party (CHP), have switched to the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party).
Modern.az reports that Hasan Ustaoğlu, elected in Seydişehir in 2024 with 35.09% of the votes from the Republican People's Party (CHP), and Mesut Mertcan, who won in Emirgazi with 53.87% of the votes from another opposition party, received their AK Party membership badges from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at a ceremony held in Ankara.
Ustaoğlu justified his decision with the desire to “serve Seydişehir more effectively,” while Mertcan emphasized his loyalty to the ruling party's vision.
