US President Donald Trump has been informed that Ukraine is preparing for a new offensive operation.
Modern.az reports that The Wall Street Journal newspaper published this information, citing two sources.
According to the information, the situation on the battlefield was explained to Trump, and it was stated that Russia has made only slight progress in recent years.
The newspaper writes that the information about Ukraine's possible offensive plan was conveyed to him by Kit Kellog, the US Special Representative for Ukraine, and Michael Waltz, the Permanent Representative to the UN.
Trump sharpened his rhetoric after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York on September 23, within the framework of the UN General Assembly. The US leader declared that Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, can fully restore its territorial integrity and “even go further.” He called Russia a “paper tiger,” emphasizing that Moscow's economy was collapsing: “Now is the right time for Ukraine to act.”
WSJ notes that although Trump changed his rhetoric, he did not make a significant shift in his policy. Thus, he allows the sale of US weapons to Kyiv, but restricts the use of these weapons for strikes on Russian territory.
Although Kyiv possesses long-range ATACMS missiles capable of hitting targets up to 300 km away, their use against Russian territory is prohibited.
Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, expressed hope that Trump would return to his previous stance and reiterate that Ukraine is defeated and must agree to territorial concessions.
