Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated during a conversation with journalists on his plane returning from Washington, after meeting with the American leader at the White House the day before, that talks with Donald Trump led to “significant progress in many areas.”
Modern.az reports that this was stated in information published in the Turkish press.
"We are leaving Washington with a sense of satisfaction. We held talks with the President in a sincere, constructive, and productive atmosphere. As is known, our relations with Mr. Trump have always been good. We developed a special dialogue during his first term, and it continues today. I am confident that this will have a positive impact on Turkey-America relations," Erdoğan stated.
"Naturally, it is not possible to resolve all issues in one meeting. However, this contact led to significant progress in many areas. We aim to increase our trade volume to 100 billion dollars. As leaders, we have the political will to achieve this," he noted.
The Turkish President declared that the situation in Syria and the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza were also on the agenda during his meeting with Trump.
"Our conversation was of particular importance in the context of ending the massacre in Gaza. Mr. Trump expressed the necessity of achieving lasting peace during our meeting. We, in turn, presented our views on how to achieve a ceasefire first, and then lasting peace, both in Gaza and throughout Palestine.
