New political alliance attempts are on the agenda in the nationalist camp in Turkey.
Modern.az reports that the warm dialogue observed between Müsavat Dərvişoğlu, leader of the İYİ Party, and Ümit Özdağ, leader of the Zafer Party, at the recent meeting of the “Nationalist Congress” Association, has led to extensive discussions in political circles.
At the meeting, Ümit Özdağ delivered a message of unity. Dərvişoğlu, in turn, drew attention with his response, “We have never separated; we are together.” This statement has brought the possibility of a new alliance among nationalist parties to the forefront.
However, İYİ Party officials currently evaluate this rapprochement as merely a “political gesture of friendship.” The party leadership states that the unification of nationalist forces alone may not guarantee electoral success.
The possibility of the Açar Party (Anahtar), founded by Yavuz Ağıralıoğlu, another politician who left the İYİ Party, joining them is also on the agenda.
Although Ümit Özdağ (Zafer Party) and Yavuz Ağıralıoğlu (Açar Party) appeal to a similar voter base, this fragmentation has not increased the overall votes of the “opposition nationalist right.” In the elections held in 2023 and 2024, the İYİ Party's rating dropped from 10 percent to 4 percent.
Although the idea of an “opposition nationalist bloc” has not yet officially materialized in Turkey, it is clear that a new direction of rapprochement is emerging on the political scene.
