The Syrian government hopes that the sanctions imposed by the US against the country will be officially lifted in the coming months.
Modern.az reports that the country's Minister of Economy, Mohammad Nidal al-Shaar, stated this in an interview with “Reuters” on Tuesday.
US President Donald Trump instructed to lift a large part of the sanctions against the country after a meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in May. However, the document adopted in 2019, known as the “Caesar Act” concerning the protection of Syria's civilian population, still remains in force in US legislation.
“We must make certain efforts and conduct lobbying to continue the right path started in this direction. We hope that by the end of the year, the bill will be submitted to the president, and he will sign the document,” – al-Shaar stated during his speech in London.
The Syrian President also noted that the government plans to introduce a new currency into circulation at the beginning of next year.
