Progress has been made towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Gaza, and therefore Washington intends to gradually transfer authority in the Gaza Strip to Palestinian civilian structures.
Modern.az reports that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated this before his visit to Israel.
"Ultimately, we would like to see civilian authority, a Palestinian civilian entity, in Gaza. We are working towards this. We would like to see Palestinian police in Gaza," he said.
According to him, the main condition for the gradual transfer of authority in Gaza to Palestinian civilian authorities is the complete elimination of Hamas's influence. Rubio also emphasized the importance of training and educating future Palestinian police forces with the help of experts from abroad.
"Clearly, this will take some time, because people are not simply hired into the police; they need to be vetted, trained, and ensure all infrastructure is ready. This project is only seven or eight days old, so there is still a lot of work to be done, but we are determined to complete it," the US Secretary of State added.
