Ekrem İmamoğlu, the arrested mayor of Istanbul, has been interrogated within the scope of a espionage case.
Modern.az reports that the interrogation took place at the Çağlayan courthouse and lasted approximately 3 hours.
Hundreds of supporters gathered in front of the building, holding up his pictures and chanting slogans demanding his freedom.
According to information, the investigation began two days ago.
According to Turkish media, the espionage case was opened following the statements of Hüseyin Gün, who was arrested on July 4. Gün is accused of having connections with the FETÖ movement, PKK, and representatives of several foreign states.
According to the indictment, Gün was involved in financing mass riots, transmitting classified information, and sharing data related to the 2019 municipal elections, in line with the interests of these organizations. He is also alleged to have transmitted information regarding weapon systems belonging to the Turkish army to foreign entities.
The report by Turkey's Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) indicates that although Hüseyin Gün had no official commercial activity, he carried out large sums of money transfers and cashed out 85 million lira (approximately 2 million dollars) without documentation.
Investigations also revealed that Gün met with Mustafa Özcan, known as “FETÖ's UK imam,” and received instructions from him.
