A verdict has been announced for 32 defendants in the case of the fire that occurred at the Grand Kartal Hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort in the Republic of Turkey, which claimed the lives of 78 people.

Modern.az reports that, according to NTV, 11 defendants, including hotel owner Halit Ergül, his wife, and two daughters, have been sentenced to life imprisonment in total. According to the channel, the hotel's accountant and general manager, two deputy mayors of Bolu, the head of the fire department, a fire inspector, and others also sat in the dock.

The hearing was conducted by the First High Criminal Court, and a local school gymnasium was specially equipped for the hearing. According to the channel, the reading of the verdict took 13 minutes, and its announcement was met with applause.

The fire at Kartalkaya Resort occurred on the night of January 22. 78 people died, 34 of whom were minors. Another 137 people were injured.
