Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has denied the version of internal betrayal in the assassination of former Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last year.
According to Modern.az, IRGC representative Ali Mohammad Naini told Iranian media that the cause of Haniyeh's death was not an explosive placed under his bed, but a missile attack.
According to him, Haniyeh was targeted during a phone call, and it was the mobile signal that allowed his location to be determined.
Naini added that although the incident occurred in an IRGC-owned guesthouse, it was intended to damage the organization's reputation:
“Haniyeh could have been killed in Qatar or on the streets of Tehran, but its occurrence specifically in an IRGC guesthouse was not accidental; the aim was to damage the institution's image.”
It should be recalled that former Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh died as a result of an assassination in Tehran on July 31, 2024. Iranian officials called the incident a “terrorist act” and did not rule out the possibility of Israeli intelligence being responsible.
