Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned that if the water supply situation deteriorates, authorities may resort to evacuation measures from Tehran.
Modern.az reports that the head of state made this statement "during a business trip to the city of Sanandaj".
According to Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran is facing a massive water crisis resulting from multi-year drought and the depletion of groundwater resources.
The President noted that the situation in the capital is extremely severe.
"If it does not rain in the near future, we will have to implement severe water restrictions in Tehran starting next month”.
The President also admitted that high inflation, including economic difficulties, is a result of foreign sanctions and internal mismanagement. He added that limited financial resources hinder the completion of many state projects.
Pezeshkian emphasized the need for rational management of natural resources, tightening water and energy conservation standards, as well as reviewing approaches to agricultural and industrial development in the context of climate change.
