In Russia, law enforcement agencies have exposed the activities of an organized group that deceived homeless people into signing contracts to send them to the war with Ukraine, and subsequently seized their payments.
Modern.az reports that Irina Volk, an official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, provided information on this matter.
According to the information, the group operated in the Chelyabinsk and Sverdlovsk regions. They found individuals leading an antisocial lifestyle and without a permanent place of residence, provided them with temporary shelter, and persuaded them to sign contracts with the Ministry of Defense. Subsequently, the “new fighters” were made to sign powers of attorney and additional bank cards, which gave group members access to their accounts.
Women in the group also planned to enter into formal marriages with the “new servicemen” to claim compensation provided in case of their injury or death. A criminal case has been opened under Article 159.4 of the Russian Criminal Code (fraud on a particularly large scale) regarding the incident. The maximum penalty is 10 years of imprisonment.
Seven people aged between 25 and 50 have been detained. During searches conducted at their homes, three cars, approximately 60 mobile phones, numerous bank and SIM cards were seized. The amount of damage caused is being investigated. This is the second similar incident recorded within a week.
