US President Donald Trump traditionally “pardoned” two turkeys on the occasion of Thanksgiving Day.

Modern.az reports that the White House released information about this.

According to the decision, the birds named “Kurlıka” and “Vixlyun” “were pardoned”.

The White House press service shared a video of the turkeys on social media, writing the words “Welcome Kurlıka and Vixlyun”.

In the US, the ceremony of the president “pardoning” a turkey for Thanksgiving Day began in 1963 – during the time of John F. Kennedy. That year, Kennedy decided to spare the life of the bird sent to the White House by the National Turkey Federation.

Thanksgiving Day is a traditional harvest festival celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. The turkey, in turn, is considered the main dish of that day.

Humorous biographies are prepared annually for the “pardoned” turkeys. According to information, this year Vixlyun wants to be a mascot for his state's sports team, while Kurlıka loves biscuits very much.
