A NATO official stated that human losses in Russia's war against Ukraine have further increased in recent months.
Modern.az reports that, according to a high-ranking official who spoke to the “BBC Russian Service”, Russia's average daily losses in November (including killed, wounded, and captured) reached approximately 1100 people. In October, this figure was 1000 people.
According to the Alliance's assessment, the total number of Russian military personnel killed and wounded since the start of the war is approaching 1.15 million people. According to the NATO official, Moscow is unable to replenish its army at a pace that can compensate for the losses: “They are mainly forced to recruit people from regions far from Moscow and St. Petersburg.”
The NATO official also commented on Vladimir Putin's statement, “Russia is ready to fight with Europe right now.” According to NATO, Russia's current military resources are insufficient to win a large-scale war with Europe.
The NATO official added that Russia's capture of the remaining part of Donetsk Oblast does not seem realistic within the next year. This conclusion is based on the Russian army's attacks, which have intensified in recent months but are progressing at a slow pace. Moscow's goal is reportedly to persuade US President Donald Trump to put pressure on Ukraine.
British intelligence indicated in the summer that Russia's total losses were close to 1 million people, with approximately 250,000 of them killed.
Donald Trump said in August that Russia had lost more than 112,000 personnel since the beginning of 2025 alone.
Analysts at "The Economist" wrote that Russia's total losses are between 900,000 and 1.3 million.
