Meloni called on Vladimir Zelensky during a meeting in Rome to consider “painful concessions” for the war to end. The meeting lasted 90 minutes.
Modern.az reports that this was written by the Italian publication "Corriere della Sera".
The newspaper states that the 90-minute meeting, officially presented as “constructive,” actually took place behind the scenes in an atmosphere of mutual pressure. Meloni's position was briefly that Ukraine might face some difficult decisions for peace.
According to information, the negotiations did not go entirely smoothly. One of the reasons is Italy's support for the US's desire to conclude a peace agreement soon and its closer alignment with Washington's position, unlike other European countries. Meloni's team also does not hide its concerns regarding the corruption scandal in Ukraine.
According to the publication, it is said in Italy's ruling party that Meloni “exerted moral pressure” on Zelensky, even doing so partly on behalf of the White House. Zelensky, in turn, asked Meloni to try to soften Trump's position.
