In his talks with US President Joe Biden, he repeatedly raised the issue of his country's NATO membership and considered it a real security guarantee for Ukraine.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to Zelenskyy, he directly asked Biden if Ukraine could become a NATO member? The answer was unequivocal: “No, you will not be in NATO”. The Ukrainian leader noted that his repeated return to this topic had, over time, created an ironic attitude among some individuals in the White House. According to him, he was often called “tough” due to this persistent stance, but he himself does not understand why it was perceived that way.
At the same time, Zelenskyy stated that he does not consider it necessary to amend the Ukrainian Constitution regarding the NATO course. According to him, only the people of Ukraine can decide the fate of the Constitution and this process must occur without any external pressure, especially without calls from Russia.
He emphasized that Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic direction is a conscious choice and the goal is to obtain reliable, long-term security guarantees for the country.
