Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the negotiations held with the US within the framework of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (Zangezur corridor - ed.) project were constructive.
He noted that in this process, there were a number of nuances regarding Armenia–Russia relations.
Modern.az reports that Pashinyan voiced these views during a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin within the framework of the informal summit of CIS heads of state.
According to Pashinyan, negotiations with the US on the implementation of the TRIPP project and the construction of road infrastructure promise important and substantive changes for the region. He emphasized that since these issues also affect Armenia's bilateral relations with Russia, the current meeting is a good opportunity for a detailed discussion of the topic.
It should be recalled that after a trilateral meeting held with US President Donald Trump in Washington on August 8, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint declaration providing for the establishment of peace between Baku and Yerevan and the creation of transport communication between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan. The aforementioned transport project was presented under the name “Trump Route”.
During the meeting, Pashinyan thanked the Russian President for his support for the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and expressed his confidence that normalization would also have a positive impact on the development of Yerevan–Moscow relations. According to him, the positive processes taking place in the South Caucasus have already begun to yield practical results, and the transit of goods from Russia to Armenia through Azerbaijani territory is an example of this.
Pashinyan also expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during his speech at the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in St. Petersburg for the conditions created for the commencement of bilateral trade. In turn, Vladimir Putin noted that relations between Armenia and Russia are developing, including discussions on cooperation plans in the fields of energy and nuclear energy, and that trade turnover indicators have changed in a positive direction.
