A "Falcon 50" aircraft, flying from Ankara to Tripoli and presumed to be carrying Libyan Chief of Staff General Mohammed Ali Haddad, suddenly disappeared from radars.
Modern.az reported that the "Habertürk" channel disseminated information on this matter.
Following the incident, authorities imposed temporary flight restrictions over Ankara and closed the city's airspace.
It was also reported that Haddad had previously arrived in the Turkish capital at the invitation of Turkish Chief of Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu and held talks with Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that contact with the aircraft carrying the Libyan Chief of Staff had been lost: “Today at 20:10 (21:10 Baku time), a Falcon 50 business jet with tail number 9H-DFJ departed from Ankara's Esenboğa Airport for Tripoli. However, according to information as of 20:52, contact with the aircraft has been lost.”
According to him, Turkish authorities received a message from the pilots about an emergency landing in the Haymana region, after which they were unable to re-establish contact with the aircraft.
The minister stated that there were five passengers on board the aircraft, including Libya's Chief of Staff General Mohammed Ali Haddad.
