A coup attempt organized by Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, the leader of the former transitional government in Burkina Faso, has been thwarted.
Modern.az reports, citing foreign media, that Security Minister Mahamadou Sana stated on state television that an attempt to destabilize the country on January 3 was thwarted.
Sana stated that the coup attempt was organized by Damiba, the leader of the former transitional government, and its aim was to neutralize Ibrahim Traore, the leader of the military regime.
Mahamadou Sana emphasized that the situation is under control and those involved will be held accountable.
Ibrahim Traore, the leader of the current military regime, overthrew Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, who came to power through a coup on September 30, 2022.
Damiba, in turn, had seized power in January 2022 by overthrowing the then-president Roch Marc Christian Kabore.
