In response to the brutal suppression of protests, Iranian diplomats have been banned from entering European Parliament buildings.
Modern.az reports that, according to "Politico", this decision was taken amidst widespread government repression against demonstrators demanding an end to decades of religious rule in Iran.
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola announced the ban in a letter to Members of the European Parliament on Monday. The restrictions will apply to all European Parliament buildings in Brussels and Strasbourg, where plenary sessions and key discussions are held, as well as to the institution's Secretariat in Luxembourg.
According to the decision, individuals with Iranian passports will be checked upon entering parliamentary buildings, while diplomats, mission staff, officials, and government representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran will not be able to enter.
