Greenland's government does not support the US's intention to take control over the region and hopes for NATO's assistance.
Modern.az reports that “Le Figaro” newspaper disseminated information about this, citing a statement from the Greenlandic government.
The statement reads: “Greenland in no way accepts the US's desire to “take over” the vast territory and is increasing its efforts to ensure its defense within the NATO framework.”
The document emphasizes that Greenland's ruling coalition cannot accept such an approach under any circumstances. The island's government also noted that “Greenland will always be part of the Western defense alliance.”
Previously, US President Donald Trump stated that the US needs Greenland for defense purposes.
Greenland is considered a center of Arctic security, a starting point for important sea routes, and a territory with various resources, including rare earth metals. Western media reports the presence of graphite, copper, zinc, gold, diamonds, iron ore, titanium, vanadium, and uranium deposits on the island.
