The US and Iran have made mutual concessions to agree on holding talks in Oman. The main topic of the talks will be Iran's nuclear program, while issues related to its missile program and Iran-backed armed groups will also be addressed.
Modern.az reports that "The New York Times" newspaper published information on this matter.
The publication, citing three Iranian officials and a representative of an Arab country, writes that the US has agreed to hold the talks in Oman and not to involve regional actors in the process. In return, Iranian officials have agreed to hold direct meetings with their American counterparts.
According to the information, the parties have agreed that the talks will primarily focus on Iran's nuclear program and be directed towards preparing a framework document for a possible agreement.
i24NEWS also reports, citing official sources, that although the main focus of the planned talks between the US and Iran will be on the nuclear program, issues related to ballistic missiles and Iran-backed armed groups will also be discussed.
It is noted that Iran had previously warned that it would withdraw from the process if Washington attempted to expand the talks' agenda beyond the nuclear dossier. However, according to sources, the parties have agreed on a compromise. Within the framework of this compromise, issues related to the missile program and regional activities will be discussed in parallel with the nuclear topic, and the formation of a general framework for a future possible agreement will be targeted.
