Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has appointed Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, political advisor to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, to a new position.
Modern.az reports that “Tasnim” has released information on this.
According to the relevant decree, Shamkhani has begun to serve as the Secretary-General of the Islamic Republic's Defense Council.
The appointment occurred amidst ongoing regional and international security challenges. Shamkhani is considered a key figure in Iran's military-political leadership. He served for many years as the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.
The main responsibilities of the Defense Council include strengthening the country's defense capabilities, combating new threats, and coordinating and improving the adoption of defense decisions.
