Russian President Vladimir Putin has been informed about the situation concerning Lieutenant General of the Ministry of Defense and First Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Vladimir Alekseyev.
Modern.az reports that Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov informed journalists about this.
Peskov stated that the special services are currently carrying out their duties.
"First, we wish the general to survive. We hope that this will be the case," he added.
The Presidential Press Secretary noted that high-ranking military personnel are at risk, but discussing how their security will be ensured is within the purview of the security services, not the Kremlin.
On February 6, an unknown individual shot Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev several times on Moscow's Volokolamskoye Highway and fled. Alekseyev was hospitalized.
A criminal case has been opened regarding attempted murder and illegal firearms trafficking, and the prosecutor's office has taken over the investigation.
Alekseyev was awarded the title of Hero of Russia in 2017. He has held the position of First Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces since 2011.
