Due to a serious shortage in the Russian labor market, Russia is trying to attract workers from India, Sri Lanka, and other Asian countries.

Modern.az reports, citing Bloomberg, that the impact of the war in Ukraine and demographic problems have created the sharpest labor shortage in the country in recent decades. For this reason, Russia is expanding the geography of migrants it previously attracted mainly from Central Asia, turning to countries with greater population potential.

According to official estimates, the country's economy will need approximately 11 million additional workers by the end of the decade.

Currently, foreign workers mainly fill existing vacancies in construction, restaurants, services, and other sectors. It is also noted that the number of labor migrants from Asian countries is increasing, and Russian language courses are being organized to help them adapt.

Experts state that an aging population, low birth rates, and the effects of the war are among the main causes of Russia's labor market crisis, and the country may become more dependent on foreign labor to fill this gap.
