It has been reported that Ukraine needs 60 billion euros in foreign aid to meet its financial needs this year.

Modern.az reports that this statement was made by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius at a meeting of European Union (EU) defense ministers in Brussels.

Pistorius said: "Foreign support is required to meet Ukraine's needs this year, and every billion from both sources is significant – both from national and European sources."

He added that after the loan is allocated to Ukraine, EU countries will need more funds: "We need additional financial resources."

It should be noted that 24 of the 27 EU countries (excluding Czechia, Hungary, and Slovakia) approved a 90 billion euro financing mechanism for Ukraine covering the years 2026–2027 in December. One-third of this amount will be directed to Ukraine's state budget, and the remaining two-thirds will be allocated to arms supplies. EU countries will secure these funds by borrowing from financial markets, while interest payments will be made by the European Commission from the EU budget.
